Lethbridge Real Estate - West Lethbridge, Westside Hill
One of the things that comes along with purchasing a home in West Lethbridge is the westside hill. This roadway, which is actually known as Whoop Up Drive, is the primary method of commuting into the center of the city. There is another access road which travels to the North, however it is used almost exclusively by those heading North out of the city or possibly to the Lethbridge industrial park on the far North end.
Driving on the Westside Hill can be crazy at times. Some residents of that part of town complain that the sun is in your eyes when you are heading East to work in the mornings and also when you are returning home in the evenings. This is sometimes the case, and sometimes this has proven to be the source of traffic trouble and accidents. When driving on that road it is important to be aware of the vehicles around you and to maintain the pace of traffic. The speed limit on this road is 90km/hr however it seems that most drivers are well in excess of that and that speeding is the norm.
My biggest complaint about the road is not the people who speed on it, nor is it the drivers who are cruising along at 60km/hr and backing up traffic, my biggest problem is the rock chips I get in my window as passing cars kick up loose stones from the roadway. It seems every year I manage to catch a few rocks in my windshield from travelling up and down the road to the west side of Lethbridge.
Other than that, the view from the road is pretty nice and it really is actually well maintained by the city of Lethbridge road crews. Here is a video I made as I was coming back to South Lethbridge from the Westside.
